		<description>Hi Adrian,

I&#039;m pleased you like the &#039;engine room&#039; metaphor, although I was very aware I was mixing my metaphors. In the first article I should perhaps have used &#039;chassis&#039; rather than &#039;foundation stones&#039; so that there was a link? My third article in this series continues with the vehicular metaphor by describing the activities suggested as the lubricants that keep the engine fit for purpose and running smoothly.

As such, it certainly goes some way to meeting your challenge. Whilst the 3rd article is already written, I will review it and see if I should tweak it in light of your very helpful challenge! Thank you also for the theory you have added – very helpful for me and I’m sure other readers.

<description>I like the engine room metaphor Paul.

Interesting recent work by McKinsey &amp; Co suggests there are 3 essential components for long term success in organisations
1) Internal Alignment - a compelling clear direction everyone signs up to
2) A High Quality of Execution - doing it well
3) A Capacity for Renewal - the ability to create lasting improvements that help the organisation shape and adapt to changes in its environment

So far your Foundations and Engine Room posts are right on the button with 1 and 2 above.

So, here is a challenge ( I have seen precious little of this one anywhere) Can you address 3 above with this line of thinking !

		<description>Hi Adrian,

Thanks for taking the time to pass on your comments - and for supporting my approach.

I have just finished writing Part 2 about Performance Standards and Responsibilities which I will be publishing tomorrow - I was once told that Tuesday morning is the best time to issue blogs, etc as that is when you have the best chance of getting them read - unless everyone else uses the same criteria!

<description>Hi Paul, Another good blog post. Thisfoundational approach to strategy is a solid way to approach things. I agree with everything you have written.

Foundation stones are a good way of thinking about building a well though out approch on which you can base your plans.
